That’s quite a weird feeling.
Yesterday (day 20) I had almost missed the day of the challenge. I already got away from the computer in unpleasant feelings, tired of the screen, exhausted physically and mentally. I thought that I would go to sleep and call it a failure day.
However, something in me returned to that idea of 15 minutes. “I just need to give it 15 minutes, and it will be OK”, I thought. So I took my MacBook again and sat in the chair, put my headphones on, looked at the time and opened GuitarPro.
Next negative thought came in the form “as the score is already beyond 3 minutes, I can’t really do anything in 15 minutes – it is just a few listenings!” — “So what?”, was my reply to that one, and I pressed play. I decided that even if I made an audit, noticed and wrote down the next steps, it would be a tiny bit of progress.
There were a couple of weak places, but the overall it sounded good. I assessed the weak places, made a few tweaks, took another listen – it was good. I called it a success and went to sleep, without pushing myself into writing a blog post about it.
What a surprise awaited me today (day 21). When I made some time to work on the commitment, I decided to start with actually playing the current version on the guitar, learning as I go (I have been doing it for some times already, but not each day). And it was… good! I mean, I definitely needed to go through it carefully and practice some places separately to get them right… But nothing was shouting for attention. Everything seemed to be in the proper feeling place, the piece was flowing well.
So I spent today’s session practicing the piece over and over again. By the end, I seem to have memorized most of the parts. And after I got this overall impression of it being played by me, now I feel that it may actually still be a bit short, there might be space to tell more. We’ll see how it goes over the next days.
For now, here’s the current score: day 21 score
Days 20 & 21:
- Took a couple of attentive listenings to the synthesized version.
- Made a few tweaks to the piece, including a small one at the switch into “intro” part, and another one just before “outro” part.
- Went through the piece several times playing it on the guitar, learning the parts as well as getting an overall feeling for the composition – I feel very god about the current state!
